03 Sep 10 A Quick Guide To Fix PDF Errors

While most PDF files sent to you may open and work fine, occasionally you may come across a few that display errors. Sometimes, some versions of Acrobat Reader do not even show the errors and just display a blank page. However, the versions of Acrobat that do display the errors may typically show messages such as 'Too few operands' or 'An unrecognized token was found'. Any viewer coming across these messages would not know where the problem is and if there is, how to fix the problem.

Generally, these error messages would mean that the file the reader is trying to view is a corrupt PDF file. Adobe has tried to ensure that with every new version of Acrobat and Reader, the PDF specifications are being tightened. In other words if a file does not meet the PDF specification, while earlier versions of Reader may have been forgiving and still displayed them, later versions of Reader or Acrobat are not that forgiving and the reader will simply not be able to view the document. While PDF files created using Adobe Acrobat will usually conform to the strict specifications, those created using clone products may not.

Sometimes, PDF files also get corrupted when they are being transmitted by email. Instead of having PDF files sent directly as an attachment, you could request the sender of the file to zip the file and then mail it as an attachment. If the file can be viewed, you will know that you are having problems receiving PDF files by email.

However, what do you do if you have a corrupt PDF file that does not match to specifications? Use Advanced PDF Repair, of course. This tool from DataNumen not only allows you to restore data from most PDF files, it also allows you to fix corrupt PDF files that do not conform to the PDF specification. So the next time, you come across a PDF file that gives you errors and you believe it is corrupted, do not waste any more time but simply use Advanced PDF Repair to recover all the data from the file.
